Spring Charity Events 2019

Spring+Charity+Events+2019

The spring and summer seasons are a great time to gain new experiences and access new opportunities. A terrific way to enjoy yourself and simultaneously aid your community is through charity events. Wayne Valley recently hosted two important events to provide funding for organizations. While the We ACT Club will be helping our troops, the Relay for Life is working with the American Cancer Society.

The We ACT Club is a club at Wayne Valley High School that specializes in donations and drives to help the less fortunate by raising awareness for organizations. Throughout May and early June, the club hosted a supply drive to aid the troops fighting overseas for our country. They asked for donations to fill care packages. Items that were requested included toiletries and non-perishables. Participants brought canned foods, toilet paper, toothbrushes, mini shampoo bottles, and other items that can be packaged. Donors brought their supplies to Ms. Fellner, the club advisor, or dropped them off in a collection box near the back courtyard office. Thank you to all the members of the We ACT Club for organizing this event, and to the Wayne Valley community for contributing their efforts.

Relay for Life is a vital contribution towards funding cancer research, and focuses on finding new treatments for the disease. This year, the event took place at Wayne Valley from May 18th at 4pm to May 19th at 5am. Participants joined a team, and earned money from supporters by walking the track overnight.  All of the proceeds collected from from this event were donated to the American Cancer Society. Throughout the night, students and adults participated in fun events, and spent time with their friends for an amazing cause. This was a wonderful and fun opportunity to increase the chances of a cure for cancer. Thank you to everyone who enabled the event to be a success.
