Work Hard, Play Hard: Summer Jobs

As a student, there are many job opportunities around Wayne that can help prepare you for future responsibilities. 

Wayne Township Pool – 14 and older 

From being a receptionist to a lifeguard, the Wayne Township Pool offers many opportunities to stay involved in the community. The pool offers a large swimming area, as well as a child-friendly section with interactive activities. Additionally, there is a seasonal concession stand that sells a variety of menu items including hot dogs and burgers, and snacks such as ice cream and pretzels. The pool opens from 11 am to 8 pm on the weekends and 11 am to 7:15 pm on the weekdays; they pay an average of 14 to 19 dollars per hour depending on the job.

Dairy Queen – 15 and older 

Located at the Preakness Shopping Center, Dairy Queen offers job opportunities for students over the age of 15. The store hours are from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays, 11:00 am to 11:00 pm on weekends, and 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on Sundays. Dairy Queen pays an average of 13 to 18 dollars. Working here, you will be surrounded by frosty treats and a fun, tight-knitted environment. Don’t you just love a cold treat on a hot, humid summer day?

YMCA – 16 and older

Whether you want to work as a camp counselor, a lifeguard, or an assistant, the YMCA offers a broad variety of jobs that you may find interesting. To become a lifeguard, you need Lifeguard certification, however, the hours are flexible and employees will receive a discount. Most of the jobs are part time and offer a range of 13 to 18 dollars per hour. 

If none of these jobs interest you, there are also other opportunities that can expand your job experience which allow you to have more control over your schedule and expenses. 

Tutoring

In case you want to stay in front of your studies during the summer, you can tutor other students. Tutoring a younger student can be extremely beneficial to them. Some topics that you find simple can be challenging to others and tutoring can help them improve greatly. Additionally, since it is not connected by any outside company, you are able to make your own prices according to your own time. 

Babysitting

Do you love children? If so, this job is for you! Babysitting requires a lot of understanding, patience, and responsibility, making it look amazing to colleges. It also gives a lot of experience with children which is useful if you plan on continuing with an occupation like teaching. Babysitting is also not attached to a corporation so you are able to negotiate with prices. You can help local families and play with cute kids!

Dog Walking

If you love furry animals, dog walking would be an amazing and enjoyable summertime job for you. Though this job requires responsibility, it is extremely rewarding and, additionally, fun! Like tutoring and babysitting, you are able to make your own prices! These walks can be so much fun for you and the dogs you are walking. It can also help make a dog owner’s workload much more manageable!
