The TV show Dexter is quite literally the best show I have ever watched. It starts with Dexter Morgan, who seems like a normal guy, but has a really secretive and dark life. The show is even more interesting because his dad, Harry Morgan, created a code for Dexter to live by, and he doesn’t betray the code. Instead, he satisfies what he calls his ‘dark passenger’ by using the code. The code follows the rules: Don’t get caught. Never kill any innocents. Harry Morgan noticed Dexter’s ‘issues’ when he was a child, but later on died from suicide. Dexter believes his dark passenger is only there because he was ‘born in blood’ and he watched his mother get murdered right in front of him.
Dexter follows the code throughout his life. While having his secret “dark passenger” inside of him, he balances his family and work lifestyle. He works in forensic science, blood splatter analysis, and that’s how he blends in. Each season is very exciting and different, and there is a new killer each season that Dexter looks out for, which keeps you totally hooked into the show. I also love how the show makes you think about the deeper meaning of the show, rather than it just being a typical show about criminals.
As I said before, each season of Dexter builds on the previous episode and gets more intense and more jaw-dropping with each episode you watch. Seasons 1-4 are especially important and a lot because you get introduced to many different characters that serve a total importance and really make you understand Dexter’s life and his world/backstory. Seasons 5-8 keep the whole theme going with new problems and new plot twists, and never fails to shock you! Every season adds more and more importance to the story, and it is so cool to watch someone change as a person and adapt to new habits, new scenarios, and grow a family. Dexter is also great because it makes me feel for the characters. Normally, shows don’t do that for me, and I did catch myself crying over the show one too many times. That’s just how good it is. The show isn’t just about criminal actions; it is about his inner struggles and how he deals with his dark passenger.
Another contribution to the show Dexter is the continuing series, New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection. New Blood brings the story back altogether in a really exciting way. It feels slower and boring at the start, but it keeps the same theme that made the original, Dexter, so interesting and so good. There are new characters and a new setting, which all together feel like a fresh start, but the theme is still the same, and it still all connects to everything that’s happened in his past life. It shows how Dexter tries to move forward, which adds more to his character. Then Dexter: Resurrection continues the story even more! So far, it also keeps the same theme and adds juicy drama without losing it. It may seem repetitive, but it isn’t because each season is something new and exciting, and Dexter handles the challenges in different ways.
Overall, I would DEFINITELY recommend Dexter, New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection to everyone who hasn’t watched it (yet), and especially if you like crime shows with a deeper meaning. It is the perfect and life-changing show that could be violent at times, but it tells a huge story about identity and trying to fit in when you feel different. The show explains the who, what, when, where, why, and how things happen, and it is easily a 10/10 series. Dexter is perfect for people with short attention spans, and that is one of the reasons I was able to watch Dexter all the way through and love it the way I do.
