Scream 7, released on February 27th, 2026, is the seventh installment of the Scream franchise. It picks up a couple years after the events of Scream 6, which was released back in 2023.
This movie is a horror film, giving it an R-rating, so I suggest that you do not go and see it if you cannot handle horror movies.
The Scream franchise, starting back in 1996, is about a masked killer known as Ghostface who calls people to ask them questions and freak them out before eventually killing them.
Scream 7 follows Sidney Prescott-Evans and her family as another round of ghostface murders happens around their town.
A fun fact about Sidney is that she was not in Scream 6, which is insane knowing that she is the main character. Her absence from the movie was due to a dispute about the amount of money that her actress, Neve Campbell, earned from the movie.
I think that Sidney’s absence from the last movie made it feel very different and not as good as the others, and that her re-addition to the franchise upgraded Scream 7 by a lot.
As usual, the movie opens with a long and drawn out kill scene. What is interesting about this kill scene is that the two kills are much more aggressive and gory compared to the gut stabs in most of the other movies.
After the opening scene, the movie continues on with several more aggressive and brutal kill scenes.
A total of around ten people die in this movie. Even though this is the average amount for the scream movies, the kills are possibly the goriest in the franchise, getting bloodier and bloodier as the movie progresses on.
One critique I have about this movie is that though I believe the kills in the ending scene were good, I believe that the scene should have been longer. It was kind of just the killer reveals and then their deaths.
Another critique that I have about this movie is that I think that the killers were kind of random. I feel like the people who were discovered to be the killers in the end weren’t the biggest characters. Each of the killers barely got any screentime throughout the movie.
I also think that the killers were way too unexpected. In my opinion, there should be at least one killer who is suspected throughout the whole movie.
To add on, the motives of the killers were just stupid. Some of the killers didn’t even have real motives.
On the other hand, a plus about the movie is that there are some amazing scenes in the movie. There are several extremely cool and shocking scenes throughout the movie.
As well as this, I believe the final scene of the movie was perfect. It added an emotional scene to the movie, a type of scene that isn’t usually used in horror movies.
Overall, I would give Scream 7 a 9/10. I think the movie is amazing, but I do think that with killers with good motives who were more interesting and a longer ending kill scene, the movie would be a 10/10.
Even though Scream 7 was great, I do hope there are no more Scream movies after this. I think Scream 7 was a good ending to the franchise and adding anything else would be unnecessary.
