Years at Valley and Graduation Year: School Social Worker Mattison Indomenico spent all 4 years of high school here at Wayne Valley and graduated in 2019, where she later attended College.
Education: (High School/College/Major/Etc) Mattison attended Wayne Valley High School, where she was involved in the National Honor Society, video club, football cheer, the dance team, and SDA. She later went on to study psychology at Ramapo College of New Jersey. As a kid, Mattison believed she wanted to be a neurosurgeon, as she was always interested in the brain and still is, but it changed over time in college when she took classes about Neuropsychology. She chose this because it allowed her to study the brain and human behavior, which were things she liked.
Work Experience: She is now a Social Worker here at Wayne Valley High School. She chose this career because she always loved talking to people and having deep conversations about feelings, and how to navigate life, and how to cope with certain life circumstances. Growing up her friends would always come to her for advice or to vent, so it was very natural for her to pick a profession where she was able to talk to people. Someone who inspired her to pursue this career was one of her college professors. She was taking an intro class to social work and her professor was amazing and was very personable and charismatic. She loved working with him and wanted to be a social worker just like him and help people like he has. Mattison likes her job because she is able to connect with students and give them a space where they can share honestly about how they are doing and things they need help on. While she loves helping kids with what they’re struggling with, she also loves hearing about their success and watching kids grow from a not so great place, and having a lot of challenges to overcoming their challenges and watching them thrive.
Advice: A piece of advice she has for students here at Wayne Valley is “to not avoid discomfort”, when you avoid discomfort you are reinforcing the belief that you can’t handle it, the more you tell yourself you can’t do something the less capable you’ll feel and true growth and comfort don’t overlap their is some sort of level of discomfort in order to make a breakthrough.
Fun Facts: Mattison was the White overall in 2019 and likes to read books and take walks admiring the nature around her. Her favorite show is Arrested Development and her favorite movie is the Truman Sshow.
