May I have your attention, please? The show is about to begin, places everyone: It’s showtime! Curtains up, lights on, Wayne Valley SDA is Broadway bound!
SDA has been at Wayne Valley for over 65 years, providing students with the opportunity to participate in team dances that include pom, aerobics, tap, and jazz. Students are divided into two teams: the Blue Team and the White Team. Two captains lead every dance. Each team is led by one senior girl, the overall. This year, the overalls are Charlie Semon for the Blue Team and Jackelyn Aguilera for the White Team.
“SDA is more than just a show; it’s about creating memories that will last a lifetime,” shares White Overall, Jackelyn Aguilera. “I feel so honoured to be the 2026 White Overall, and I hope I can make this journey as meaningful for others as it has been for me!”
SDA begins in late February and concludes at the end of April, featuring three shows. This year’s show dates are April 23, 24, and 25th. At the end of the final show, first, second, and third place are awarded to the dances, as well as an overall winner. Each year, the show and dances have a theme, chosen by the SDA President and Vice President. Below are this year’s themes and captains:
Blue Pom: Mamma Mia! – led by seniors Mya Munoz and Jazzy Aviles
White Pom: School of Rock the Musical – led by seniors Grace O’Melia and Ashlyn Siek
Blue Aerobics: Chicago the Musical – led by senior Deirdre Gonzalez and junior Jazzy Colon
White Aerobics: The Outsiders: A New Musical – led by seniors Reese Wentink and Ava Ganguzza
Blue Tap: Matilda – led by juniors Malia Destafano and Phoebe Phelan
White Tap: Wicked – led by seniors Nadia Qira and Hana Takahashi
Blue Jazz: Moulin Rouge! – led by senior Noa Turro and junior Bella Colon
White Jazz: The Phantom of the Opera – led by juniors Alison Wajda and Vittoria Sykes
During the last show, while the final scoring is underway, a series of relay competitions goes on. The themes for these are: Blue Relay, Newsies the Musical and White Relay, Hamilton.Â
This year’s SDA board consists of the President: senior Charlotte English, Vice President: junior Isabella Bickford, White Historian: junior Alyssa Giardino, White Treasurer: senior Mia Soto, White Secretary: senior Alessia Mejia, Blue Historian: senior Maya Gerstein, Blue Treasurer: senior Katelyn Kahn, Blue Secretary: senior Mia Rubis, and Alumni Coordinator: senior Jiana Cruz.
Freshman team placements will be released in December, and dance sign-ups start in February. Seniors can pick up to 4 dances in the first round, juniors can pick 3 dances, sophomores can pick up to two, and freshmen can only choose one. After these rounds, registration will be open to all without limit.Â
“I’m looking forward to making our dreams come true and working so hard together to be proud of ourselves,” says Blue Overall, Charlie Semon. “I love making girls smile…It’s all about being a team, and that’s all I want!”
In April, around 3,000 people attend these SDA shows. You can follow @waynevalleysda on Instagram for more information regarding ticketing and other details leading up to the shows. These dances are Broadway-bound to be great, so you do not want to miss them!
