“I was very happy to win the game, and especially in such a dominating way; it’s exciting to beat PV because they are always talking smack to us and trying to get under our skin,” said the eleventh grader Jadon Cabrales, who has been playing football for twelve years. The Varsity football team had the entire crowd in blue out theme, cheering and on their toes, leading to a big win of 35-7 against their long-time rivals since 1952, Passaic Valley. Wayne Valley started strong with a kickoff at 6:30, with an interception on Passaic Valley’s kickoff.
“It felt great to make a big play against PV because of the energy from the team parents and supporters,” said Cabrales. Cabrales (#4) and the Wayne Valley offense helped command the team to a blowout victory, with 5 receptions for 70 yards and a 25-yard touchdown reception. In addition, Senior Captain Quarterback Danny Ferraulio (#11) ended with 15 passes, 237 yards in total, and 3 passing touchdowns. Senior Captain Wide Receiver Bryce Flower (#8) caught 5 passes for 81 yards, with a 12-yard touchdown reception. Senior Captain Running Back Elizer Estevez (#1) added 130 yards and a 1-yard rushing touchdown. To seal the deal in the fourth quarter, Sophomore Running Back Nick Nazare (#31) ended the game with a 39-yard touchdown run. The defense was just as successful as the offense, with Defensive Backs Bryce Flower (#8), Joey Avlies (#7), Brayden Rude (#3), and Kyle Betts (#6) all getting an interception to hold Passaic Valley to seven points. Senior Defensive Back Kyle Betz was named the athlete of the game and won the North Jersey Football Player of the Week for week 2 with an outstanding 4 catches for 63 yards and a 24-yard touchdown reception on top of his interception.
Most football players prepare for the game by hydrating, getting a good night’s sleep, and mentally getting into the right mindset. In addition, the football players’ practices in the summer were two sessions a day, starting from seven in the morning to three in the afternoon. Now that they have school, they are getting great practice time, with 3 hours long after school. You can see the dedication in these players, with the balance of school, football, and a social life. It pays off because in the end, Wayne Valley won with many great plays. Passaic Valley views Wayne Valley as its “rivals” because of the “Valley” name, but Wayne Valley has proved to Passaic Valley that the Battle of Valley is ours.
