AP Computer Science Principles is a full year course worth five credits that is available for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This course will show students the creative side of programming and coding. At the end of the course there is an optional AP exam that is highly recommended to take for a chance to earn college credits. Alongside the exam, there is also a project submitted through College Board for students to demonstrate what they have learned. Although AP Computer Science Principles is a college level course, it doesn’t require any past coding experience and is super welcoming for beginners!
Additionally, computer science is growing increasingly crucial in today’s society and becoming an extremely beneficial skill in many different fields. Unlike other classes, students will be taught leadership, problem solving skills, and use different coding languages and technologies to create digital projects in class. These projects can range from making music and art, to creating apps, games, and websites. The curriculum doesn’t just stop there, it also covers algorithms, data sets, the internet, cybersecurity, and more!
