Wayne Valley Girls Basketball Crushes Passaic Valley in Dominating Win

The Wayne Valley Girls Basketball Team won their seventh game in a row with a 45-14 drubbing of the Passaic Valley High School Hornets.

This one was never close. For the entirety of the game, Wayne Valley had the lead.

In the first quarter alone, The Indians put up thirteen points versus Passaic Valley’s six. All six of the Hornet’s first quarter points were scored by Sophomore Alexandra Stefanelli, who had one two-pointer, one three-pointer, and scored on a one point free throw.

In the second quarter, Wayne Valley took over the game, shutting-out Passaic Valley and growing their lead to 25-6.

Wayne Valley Sophomore guard Olivia Isaacson and Junior forward Jessica Lee both put up six points each in the second quarter for the only scoring during that period.

ried to rally back in the third, but only gained five points, all scored by Junior Janesy Ruiz.

Through one-half of play, only two players had scored for the Hornets.

Wayne Valley added nine points in the third with Senior Forwards Grace Martin scoring four and Sofia Neary dropping in five for the Indians. The score at the end of three was 34-11 and Wayne Valley was cruising.

In the fourth, Passaic Valley tried, but were already playing defeated. Again, only one player scored for the hornets in the quarter – Kayla Price with one two-point field goal and a successful free throw.

For the Indians, Junior forward Brianna Starling added two points and Junior Guard Jada Devine scored six by hitting two from the perimeter – both three-point shots.

Valley’s Senior Forward Erin Clark and Senior Guard Hailey Cabanas were the leading scorers for the game with eight points each.

Unfortunately, the Indians’ next game was a loss to the number one ranked Sparta Spartans in Sparta. The final score of that game was 59 – 35.

Wayne Valley’s record is currently 8-2. They are undefeated in their division which puts them just ahead of the 9-2 Wayne Hills Patriots. Valley defeated the Hills team on January 4 39-33 and a rematch between these two teams is scheduled for February 3.
