Boys Lacrosse: 2021 Passaic County Champions

After the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boys Lacrosse team has come back stronger than ever this year! On Saturday, May 22, the team was crowned Passaic County Champions after beating our cross-town rival Wayne Hills with a final score of 10-5, securing their first county title since 2016.

According to Coach Glander, for this win, “There was a great deal of pressure that lifted up off our shoulders. For the last few years we have been chasing this win, getting closer and closer each time.” In 2018, the team lost to Hills in the county finals by a large margin. In 2019 they narrowed it, and in 2021, they finally came out on top. Glander remarks, “To finally have it happen, [this win] means a lot to everyone involved in the program: past, present, and future.”

With a current record of 8-4, the team has fought hard in each game. In fact, the boys also beat Hills earlier in the season (7-6) taking home the Mayor’s Cup back to the Valley side of town—but finally claiming a county title was arguably the sweeter victory of the two. “This win is a culmination of a lot of hard work, a lot of time spent, a lot of ups and a lot of downs,” says Glander. “We dedicated this season not just to ourselves, but to the members of the 2020 team who missed out on this opportunity. Having that driving force behind us, gave us something greater than ourselves to play for.”

As the state tournament looms up ahead, the Boys Lacrosse team looks to “ride this momentum into the state and see how far we can take it!”
