On January 13th, WVHS Junior, Alexander Rech won the Wayne Valley Poetry Out Loud Competition, national poetry recitation contest. Alex will represent Wayne Valley at the Region 6 recitation contest on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Bergen Community College, competing against students from Passaic, Bergen and Hudson counties.

The English teachers Stephanie Cielusniak, Melinda DelPizzo, Christina D’Amelio, Erica Foster, Cindi Hannon, Fitore Sabani, Catherine Smith, Alison Solomon, Jeffrey White and Neena Wolfson conducted contests in their classes. Each class picked a winner to send to the school wide competition. The teachers use the program to encourage students to learn about great poetry through recitation. It also helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. Wayne Valley participated in a school wide contest which included over 350 students.
