Wayne Valley Field Hockey

Wayne Valley Field Hockey started the season off with a bang, beating Lakeland and Passaic Valley in the first two games of year. They acquired a record of 8-5, falling short by just one point in four of the five losses. The team’s leading scorers are Hannah Sikorski with 13 goals and 5 assists, Catie McGrath with 9 goals and 5 assists, and Madison Phillips with 4 goals and 2 assists. Captains Hoover, Kaiser, Sikorski, and Phillips led Valley to a 3-1 win over Pompton Lakes in the first round of counties, but the team unfortunately finished the tournament with a loss against West Milford in the second round.

Despite their disappointing end, Erica Kaiser stated that “the team has had one of the strongest family bonds Wayne Valley Field Hockey has ever seen, due to most of the seniors starting in sixth grade together.” With thirteen graduating players, Alyssa Germinario leaves the team with some words of wisdom: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” We wish them luck in the rest of their season and in years to come!

Wayne Valley’s Junior Varsity team has had a fantastic season, with wins against Lakeland, PV, Old Tappan, Westwood, Demarest, Hackensack, and Wayne Valley’s biggest rival, Wayne Hills, beating them 4-3 in the most heated game of the season. Despite their one loss against West Milford and one tie game against Ramsey, JV has an outstanding record of 9-1-1! Some of the team’s top scorers include Erin Matthews and Allie McConnell with 6 goals, Marissa Cosentini and Gianna DiTucci with 4 goals, and Jenni Fleming and Sam Pricken with 3 goals. Keep up the good work ladies, and always “stick” with it!
