On October 15, 2025, the National Honor Society inducted students from the Junior and Senior classes to the Wayne Valley chapter. NHS is a nationwide organization, where members must encompass its Four Pillars: leadership, service, scholarship, and character. Club members, selected for the prerequisite of having a 3.65 GPA or above, must undergo a rigorous application process in which they demonstrate the ways they have showcased the pillars. While having a GPA of 3.65 fulfills the scholarship requirement, the other three pillars are defended through essays and a résumé, along with a letter of recommendation from a person who has witnessed the applicant’s leadership qualities. After passing this requirement, the new member must be inducted into the organization.
At the induction ceremony this year, speeches were given by members of the club’s executive board: President Hana Takahashi, Vice President Maya Mistry, Secretary Sadie Kirz, and Treasurer Amelia Titus. In this order, they talked about the four aforementioned pillars and their significance in both their personal lives and within the organization. After each speech, a candle was lit to signify each pillar and to show the qualities each new inductee encompasses.
Following the speeches, the formal induction ceremony commenced, with members taking their certificates of membership and reciting the NHS pledge: “I pledge to uphold the high purposes of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; and will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.” Officiated by the advisor Mr. Yale, principal Ms. Grimbilas, and assistant principal Dr. Moreno, roughly one hundred new members were inducted.
