The Sheraton Crossroads has been demolished on Saturday morning, May 10th, 2025. This building can clearly be seen from Route 287 and often serves as a landmark for travelers to and from New York State on the way to places like the Palisades Mall or the Catskills. The hotel has stood where routes 17, 287 and 202 meet for over 35 years. One sophomore commented, “I often go to the Palisades Mall and other places near there. We called it the S building. We always shouted out when we saw it!”
It seems like many here at Wayne Valley also call it the S building. Teacher Mrs. Nazarko reflects, “I going skiing a lot, and when I was younger, we would all know we were almost home when we saw the S building. It is part of my childhood and adulthood. I even went to a prom there.”
The hotel officially closed its doors to the public at the end of 2023. The demolition has been witnessed by onlookers.
For now, the skyline of Mahwah is empty with no building to welcome us home. The hotel will soon be replaced by two large warehouse buildings. The plans for the warehouses have already been approved by the township’s planning board and local Mahwah officials.
