As winter approaches many of us feel the need to fully delve into that winter wonderland feeling. Imagine it is a snowy winter night burrowed up in the nook couch, blanket in hand and hot cocoa in the other while munching popcorn, turning on the TV, and wondering what Christmas movie you are going to watch. Here are some movies to satiate that hunger for winter magic.
When the winter season starts Home Alone is the movie most people think about and it is one of the top Christmas movies ever. When interviewed, most said this was their favorite movie. “It is a classic,” said Savannah Meza a Wayne Valley sophomore. It is the feeling of hope and love that makes it such a good movie. The movie Home Alone is about a boy named Kevin who gets left behind all alone in his house while his family is on a trip to Paris. Little Kevin McCallister has defend his family’s home from two meddling burglars. and has a clever way of doing so.
If you want a movie that will make you laugh Elf is another classic funny Christmas movie that will always put a smile on your face and it’s a great staple for the holiday season. A sophomore named Alexandra Marchese quoted “You Sit on a Throne of Lies,” stating that it was one of the funniest lines in the whole movie, and the most iconic. The movie Elf is about a man named Buddy. Buddy, raised as an elf, grows to be three times larger than your average elf. When he finds out who he really is, he travels from the North Pole at Santa Workshop to the Big Apple to find his biological father. While doing so he needs to conform to the norms of society because most of us don’t eat candy spaghetti. Follow him along on his expedition as he realizes that he will never truly fit in the North Pole.
The Christmas Chronicles is a classic whole-hearted, family movie that might put some tears in your eyes. This movie is about and brother and sister who are trying to find Santa so they set up a trap when Santa enters their home it takes a photo of him, and when they take a photo of him they follow him into his slay and go on an adventure.
The Polar Express is a movie that always hits that certain spot in your heart. I remember when we had Christmas parties in elementary school and drank hot chocolate while watching the movie. The Polar Express is about this boy who is starting to lose hope in Santa Clause. Late on Christmas Eve when the town is asleep a mysterious train appears at young Chris’s doorstep and he gets taken on a trip to the North Pole to see Santa where he makes many friends. Journey along with him as he boards the train and goes on an adventure to an unknown place.
The Grinch is one of my fav movies. Now there might be some controversies about which one of the movies is the best and I personally think that it is the live-action one with Jim Carey because of the comedy and the overall ambiance. Some might say the animated version is better because of all the knee surgery jokes. You might be asking what is the knee surgery joke and to tell you the truth I don’t know. Now the movie The Grinch is based on the Dr. Seuss story about a whoo from Whoville who hates Christmas so he steals Christmas for everyone else. It is all about friendship, and reunion.
Frosty the Snowman is another movie we would watch at our elementary school Christmas parties. It is about children making a snowman, naming it Frosty, and putting a magician hat full of magic on the snowman, which makes the snowman come alive. Once this snowman is alive, the heat starts to come, so Frosty the Snowman goes on an adventure to somewhere cold so he doesn’t melt while the magician tries to sabotage them. It is all about friendship and hope.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is about a dad, Clark Griswold. He is the well-intentioned, walking disaster who has dragged his family through the horrors of traveling, has decided to stay home for the holidays. How well will that turn out?
It’s A Wonderful Life is a classic. After George Bailey wishes he had never been born, an angel is sent to Earth to make George’s wish come true. But as the story progresses, George starts to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted. Maybe being born wasn’t so bad after all?
A lot of these films are beloved classics! Some trace back to 1946, appealing to fans of vintage cinema. If you seek to embrace that winter wonderland spirit, consider watching one of these films. We assure you won’t regret it!
So the question remains: What is your favorite Christmas movie for the holiday season?
