On Tuesday October 15th, the National Honors Society inducted students from the Junior and Senior class to the Wayne Valley chapter of the nationwide club. 107 students were inducted, including 17 seniors. The National Honors Society (NHS) emphasizes four main characteristics for their members to strive to have: leadership, service, scholarship, and character. The club members are selected for their academic achievements and their dedication to giving back to the community. The main eligibility test is that the candidates must maintain a GPA of 3.65. If they achieve this GPA, they will have the opportunity to apply. The application process involves questions that test your character, a space to fill in your service activities that you have completed so far, and a letter of recommendation.
A short introduction was given by Mr. Yale–the club advisor–followed by a speech from Mayor Vergano. Before the inductees were called up to receive their certificate, members of the Executive Board gave a speech on each of the four pillars. President Urvi Sinha spoke about leadership, Vice President Jessica Cappadonna spoke about scholarship, Event Coordinator Francesca DiGiovanni spoke about service, and Treasurer Adrina Ibraimi spoke about character and the effects these pillars have had on them.
Congratulations to all of the inductees!
