As January undoubtedly rolls around the corner, winter is officially beginning to set in— and so are the fashion trends that will indefinitely define 2023’s highlights in winter style. With a little help from my friend Danica Alba, we have effectively brought to you a cohesive list of clothing which will definitely get you through the season— in style.
- Fur EVERYTHING
Fur returning into the fashion cycle every winter is practically a given: it’s cute, it’s cozy, and it can be styled in hundreds of different ways. We are seeing an increase in fur-lined jackets— especially leather jackets— in people’s wardrobes. Pair these with a turtleneck sweater, some cute jeans (any color works!), and a little handbag, and there you have it— a winter 2023 staple!
- Cable-Knit Sweaters
While this may seem specific, another defining item of this winter’s wardrobe is the cable-knit sweater. It’s a classic for the season and a subtle way to spice up your everyday style. These sweaters come in almost every color imaginable and can be paired with virtually anything.
- Flared Leggings
This one is obvious. Take a quick glance around the room wherever you are, and you are guaranteed to find at least one person wearing a pair of flared leggings. That’s for a reason! They’re comfortable; they can be worn on a daily basis— and everyone loves them! Again, this is another item that is very versatile; whether worn with a simple sweater or a nicer jacket, you must have this item in your closet for the winter season.
- Puffer Jackets
This is something that I’ve personally observed over the past few months, slowly rising in popularity as the temperature began to slowly drop. Reminiscent of early 2000s fashion, puffer jackets are an ultimate Y2K staple; they come in so many colors and styles. It’s almost unbelievable! If you’re going for something more casual this winter, puffer jackets should definitely be your go-to.
- Uggs
Comfy slippers? Shoes? Although I don’t know exactly how to classify them, these iconic pieces of both fashion and pop culture from the 2010s are making their return, and quickly. What makes this particular item so unique compared to the others on the list is that their return isn’t very highly favored by everyone. Some people would do anything for a pair, while many others would prefer to leave this fashion statement in the past.
This season, we also decided to get the editors involved and asked them what some of their favorite winter 2024 trends are. Here are some of the responses:
“My favorite winter fashion trend definitely has to be mock neck tops. I think that turtlenecks are a bit too chunky and scarves are impractical if you’re indoors or moving around a lot. Mock necks are the best of both worlds– turtlenecks and long-sleeved tops. You get that winter vibe but in a more simple look. Informal but not casual, mock necks are the perfect shirts for any winter occasion.”

“My favorite winter fashion trend is the UGG shoes. They have all different styles but lately, the ultra mini boots have been in trend. They are cut in the low angle rather than at the calves. They are so amazing since they can be styled with any outfit. I would recommend sizing up in Ugg boots so that they can last longer. The boots are not heavy at all to walk in and keep you warm in the cold weather. The ultra mini boots cost around $150 and come in different colors. I would definitely recommend them to all. Be sure to get yourself a pair before they sell out!”
– Sharin Mahtani, Social Media and Website
“My favorite winter trend is probably fleece/fur lined leggings, boots, coats, etc., especially the leggings because you can be warm without having to put on 2+ layers.”
– Kelsey Lewis, Layout
“In addition to the trends in the article, I love that chocolate hues are in style. These color tones are an easy basic to match with many other colors. It would be a nice change of pace from my typical black. And this neutral looks good on just about anyone.”
– Mrs. Hannon, Advisor
“I see a lot of guys wearing plaid fuzzy shackets. They probably think it looks better than a regular jacket or just less embarrassing.”
