We all desire to know. Have you ever wondered why? Why is it the case that we desire knowledge? Even posing this very question (why do we desire knowledge?) communicates the truth of that opening claim–that we do, indeed, ceaselessly yearn to know, to be in touch with truth, with what is. But have you noticed that our desire to know is never completed? In fact, the more we discover, the more restless we become to know more, and yet more. Why do we possess this insatiable hunger? Humanity’s best thinkers have engaged with this question (and many others): What is the nature of ultimate reality? Does God exist? Why is there something rather than nothing? What is consciousness? How should we live? Can we achieve certainty about ourselves and our world? What does it mean to live a good life? Next year, sit alongside Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, Al-Ghazali, Maimonides, Descartes, Locke, Hume, Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Sartre, and many others as they and, more importantly, you wrestle with these questions. Take Philosophy next year and get ready to wonder. Philosophy is a year-long elective (5 credits) for grades 10-12.
