Ahmet Demirors, a sophomore on the Wayne Valley Varsity Bowling Team, started off the 2023-2024 season with an achievement to remember. In the preseason, he bowled a 300: a perfect game. For even a professional bowler, this is not an easy feat—a mere chance of 1 in 460. Looking back on this moment, Ahmet recounts, “at some point I was so excited that I was even shaking.” Surprising his team, coach, and even himself, the luster of Ahmet’s 300 still hangs in the air. This is Ahmet’s second season on the Valley Bowling team but not the first time he picked up a bowling ball. “I have been bowling ever since I was a little kid. My Dad loved bowling so he brought me with him whenever he went,” Ahmet recalls. These trips with his dad inspired him to join the bowling team; “I realized I wanted to continue my passion and try to advance my skills in competitive bowling.”
After playing for so long, Ahmet proves that passion and effort pay off. Lamenting on the members lost on the team this year, he keeps an optimistic mindset. “We still have many great bowlers, and I believe we can do just as good as last year. If not, better.” Ahmet also encourages those interested in bowling to try it out, giving them an important piece of advice: consistency. “Whether you are consistent in how often you go bowling or how you throw the bowling ball, you must always stay consistent in every aspect of bowling.” Ahmet and his team are looking forward to what awaits them this season. With skill, effort, and a positive mindset, there is no doubt that this season will be one to remember.
