Creative Corner: Dear Friend (In Honor Of October Being National Substance Abuse Month)
Dear friend,
As I write this, I sit in a position that I cannot get out of. It is all your fault. No, I do not forgive you.
For a long time, you were my closest friend, my soulmate. I let everyone else go because I knew I had you by my side. Your embrace was warm, yet left me gasping for air. Your words sounded sweet, yet were laced with venom. I put all my trust in you, but you had me fooled from the very beginning. Deep down I knew our relationship was toxic, but I couldn’t bear to cut you off. I constantly found myself seeking you out in a room full of people just so you could give me that feeling I so badly desired.
I was addicted.
Now, I vow to let you go, and I do not thank you for the experience because as I write this, I sit in a position that I cannot get out of. It is all your fault. No, I do not forgive you.
Sincerely,
Someone you hurt
