Plastic Bag Ban
On May 4th 2022, a ban on plastic bags went into effect in New Jersey. The legislation originated in November 2020 when Governor Phil Murphy signed a law that gave an 18-month waiting period until plastic bags were banned. It was implemented so that stores, restaurants, and other retail companies could prepare alternatives to plastic bags. In fact, plastic bags aren’t the only item facing the ban: others prohibited include polystyrene foam and single-use paper bags. This legislation was passed because of how plastic bags clog up landfills and negatively impact the environment. Although many shoppers may find this law inconvenient, according to environmentalists, it is a necessary measure to promote the well-being of our planet.
