Winter Sports Update
Although winter sports began in mid-January and early February to unwelcoming winter storms, sporadic practice schedules, and uncertain seasons, the Wayne Valley athletic community was unwilling to squander the season. Standout athletes and teams continued to produce stunning results in the face of a difficult school year.
The Wayne Valley Boys Basketball team achieved an exceptional 8-1 record. Senior Ameer Coubati was recognized as North Jersey’s Male Athlete of the Week and the Big North Conference Player of the Week.
The Wayne Valley Girls Basketball team continues to dominate the court with a 10-1 record. Seniors Daria Pontone and Ava Whisten, and juniors Sofia Neary, Hailey Cabanas, and Vivian Testa, led the team.
Skier Julia LaSala finished 14th overall in New Jersey at the NJISRA Race of Champions. LaSala was awarded 3rd Team All-State Honors and placed 1st in Passaic County.
Girls Fencing finished their season with a 5-6 record. Senior captains Shania Nagendra, Julianna Daudelin, and Catie Carvalho finished the season with impressive records, and they went undefeated at several meets during the season.
Boys Fencing achieved a record of 8-2, the team’s best record in history. Senior captains Zak Januak, Tyler Werr, and Steven Mango helped to clinch many a win.
Boys Bowling continues to shine with an undefeated record of 3-0. Notable bowlers include Jake Weiner and Massimo Vivino.
Girls Swimming, led by Brooke Engler, Jovanna Russo, Emily Valenzuela, Grace Weaver, and Mikaela Voinov, is currently 2-0 and looking to continue their winning streak.
Boys Swimming is also beginning their season with captains Adrian Anaemeje and Manny Vivero leading the team.
As winter sports conclude, Wayne Valley anticipates a successful spring season, showcasing teams like Boys Tennis, Baseball, Softball, Spring Track, Lacrosse, and Golf.
