Environmental Issues

Environmental Issues

In modern day society, many distractions are presented to us masking our not so glamorous world. One of the most prevalent issues in today’s news is the environment. The environment is deteriorating piece by piece, from the polar ice caps, to even the trees in our front yard. Some of the most concerning topics in the environmental world are climate change, global warming, ozone depletion, deforestation, and habitat destruction. There are so many problems in our world and the last thing we need is a dead planet since there is no planet B.

Many people have heard of most of these issues but have no idea what they truly mean or how serious they can be. Climate change can be described as any notable long-term change in the predictable patterns of the average weather of a region. Many people get confused about the differences of climate change and global warming. Unlike climate change, global warming is the slow and steady rise in the Earth’s surface temperature. The topic that most people have not heard about is ozone depletion. Ozone depletion is the reduction of the amount of ozone in the stratosphere. The ozone layer protects the living things on Earth from harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. Deforestation and habitat destruction are other concerning topics that go hand and hand. The removal of trees from the Earth comes many issues. Trees not only give off oxygen but they also provide animals and other living things with protection and shelter. Without these essential trees, there can be an increase in climate change, flooding, and increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Our planet has given so much to us, so why not give back a little. Our world may not last that long, and if we do not do something now, we may never get the chance to. These growing problems with our environment can be stopped, but they will not end unless we do something about it. Some simple ways for you to do your part for the environment are to stop littering, stop cutting down trees, start living sustainably, and to not waste all of the natural resources that our beautiful planet has to offer.
