Girls’ Basketball Team: Having a Ball This Season!

The Wayne Valley Girls Basketball team had an astounding nine-game winning streak this season. The team has earned their well-deserved 12-6 record. The intensity and drive of the girls this year is higher than it has been in the past few years, according to head coach Sinram. The constant intensity throughout every practice has contributed to their recent success.
At winter break, their record hovered just above 500 with 5 wins and 4 losses. While school was off, they kept working hard, coming back with a hunger for success. They rang in the new year with a series of wins in pivotal games, leading to their high stance in the conference, and hopeful county championship.
The team has recently faced defeat to Lakeland in a close game on Tuesday, February 7 that could have deemed them League Champions, but are optimistic that they will see Lakeland again, at their home court in the county finals. The Conference title was a small piece of the high aspirations that Wayne Valley Girls Basketball intend to reach this season, as they keep their heads held high and focus on a county championship.
Not only is the team doing an amazing job on the court, they are also amazing off!  On February 1, Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills united to raise money and awareness for Pediatric cancer. Taylor Scardilli, a freshman basketball player, reveals, “Both schools are getting together to raise money!” It’s amazing to see two rival teams come together in the name of something far more important than a game: pediatric cancer.
“We all bought a shirt and shoelaces for about $15,” says Amy Chicketano, freshman basketball player. The teams worked together to raise money by selling the t-shirts throughout their school days as well. Both teams even laced up their sneakers with the trademark yellow laces for the game.
