Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

By Aidan Halligan

Before I start, I would just like to say that this list will be absent of a lot of original titles, but that is because this year is riddled with superhero films, remakes, sequels and reboots. As much as I enjoy some of these films as much as the next person, I long to see a return to creativity in filmmaking.

1)   Logan

Logan looks to finish off Hugh Jackman’s run as Wolverine, as well as tell a decently interesting story surrounding X23 and the world where many mutants have become extinct. It also visually looks interesting, and looks to be the best Wolverine solo film in my opinion.

2)  Kong: Skull Island

I am a fan of Peter Jackson’s King Kong remake from 2005, so I am interested to see how this film is approached and executed. Visually, it looks striking, and sports a talented cast consisting of Samuel L Jackson, John Goodman, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, and John C Reilly.

3)  Life

I don’t know much about this movie, but I like Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds. The plot seems intriguing and the set’s and vfx look interesting too. I think one of the things that draws me to this film is the ambiguity of the plot brought on by the trailer.

4)  Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2

I am a fan of the Marvel movies, as I find their action and stories pretty entertaining. The first Guardians movie is my favorite Marvel movie, so I’m excited to see where our titular characters go next, as well as Baby Groot in all his glory.

5)  Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite filmmakers, and definitely one of the most artistic and talented alive. I love war movies like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, so to see him tackle a war film on the scale of a multi-hundred-million dollar budget will be absolutely incredible.
