Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill and Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli race to become New Jersey’s governor, following Phil Murphy’s term. Major issues include: renewable energy, housing, and taxation. An explosive gubernatorial debate was held on Wednesday, October 10, the candidates sparred on all kinds of topics. They are both running prolific advertising campaigns—each wants to display their strengths and their opponent’s weaknesses.
Here in Wayne, elections for the council and mayor are underway. Incumbent mayor Christopher Vergano took the uncontested Republican ticket, while current Board of Education (BOE) President Don Pavlak beat Jim Freeswick in the Democratic primary. Additionally, former BOE President Cathy Kazan is running as an independent.
Educating ourselves properly is necessary to elect the best candidates, no matter their desired position. We encourage voters to conduct research on each and compare their values. Watch debates to understand candidates’ positions, though remember to fact-check thoroughly; each one will attempt to paint themself in the best light. Vote for the people who you believe will do the best for our communities!
