Sabrina King Scores Valley vs. Hills Soccer Win

On September 19, during the first half of Valley vs. Hills sports week, Wayne Valley Girls soccer starts off the week winning their first match against their rivals. The game followed the Valley boys soccer team’s win against Hills, so pressure was on the girls to keep the streak going. However, the game turned out to be a tight one—at the end of the first half, the score was 0-0, and it remained that way for most of the second half as well. Neither side managed to get a shot into the goal. For Valley, goalie Abby Russo held down the fort, totaling six saves during the game.

With less than two minutes left in the game, and the score still 0-0, senior Alysa Wasicki passed the ball up the field. Freshman Sabrina King sprinted to the ball, beating two Hills defenders, getting there just in time to take a shot on goal. The ball went in, and all the Valley girls ran to hug King for the first goal of the night—and her first goal of her first season! The game continued, until just over a minute later, with 33 seconds left, King scored again! This time, she had an assist from Sophie MacGregor, another freshman. Both of her goals were in the last 5 minutes of the game securing the win for the team. The game ended in a 2-0 Valley victory, and the whole school celebrated King for scoring the winning goals. It was a very intense and rough match for both teams, but in the end, Valley wanted it more and pulled through.
