Take This Class: Film Studies
January 4, 2023
If you aim to develop a critical eye when it comes to cinema, Film Studies is the class for you! Film Studies I, an introductory course and full year program, is designed to help students gauge a better understanding of what’s happening not only on the screen, but behind the scenes. Core topics of this course include camera angles, techniques, editing, lighting, special effects, and more. If interested, students may enroll in Film Studies II where these ideas will be expanded upon and applied to specific genres. While watching, students could be asked to fill out a viewing log where they will examine elements of the film and give detailed examples. At the end of each film, however, a critic’s journal will ask students to target their likes and dislikes, give the film an overall rating, and critique any aspect that they feel needs improvement.
