By the time December rolls around, many people notice that it is easy to forget what was happening at the beginning of the year. January 2024: Famous comedian Katt Williams exposes the industry in an interview with Shannon Sharpe. Even though this interview was released only three days into the year, it had a lot of Americans in an uproar over what was being exposed, including information ranging from Steve Harvey lying about being homeless to comedians stealing jokes.
February 2024: Days after King Charles III announces his cancer diagnoses, American football fans crowded their televisions as they watched the Chiefs win the Superbowl and Usher perform one of the most memorable performances of the year at the halftime show. The renowned R&B singer roller-skated, danced, and brought out singers such as Alicia Keys and Ludacris.
March 2024: To kick off the month, High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens announced her pregnancy on the red carpet at the Oscars. However, Disney fans were not only in an uproar about that. In the middle of the month, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV–a docu-series about what went on behind closed doors of a Disney set–aired and became a huge subject for a while. By the end of the month, Beyonce released her highly anticipated country album titled Cowboy Carter with features from artists like Miley Cyrus and Post Malone.
April 2024: After the release of “Karma” by Jojo Siwa, TikTok was in a frenzy over the dance moves, music video, and the song itself. Also, after a battle with cancer, OJ Simpson died at age 76. Despite his tumultuous relationship with the press, many were disheartened to hear of his passing.
May 2024: Catching many by surprise, Hailey Bieber announced her pregnancy with her husband Justin Beiber. In the rap genre, Kendrick Lamar dropped his biggest single “Not Like Us” which became his 4th #1 single on Billboard 100.
June 2024: Only two days into the month, Simone Biles won her record 9th US championship in Fort Worth. Pat Sajack, known for being the host of Wheel of Fortune, made his final appearance on the 7th. And lastly, Inside Out 2 took the world by storm and managed to earn one billion dollars.
July 2024: Eminem dropped his album The Death of Slim Shady and replaced Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poet’s Department at number 1 after 12 weeks. As one side of TikTok rejoiced in Eminem’s accomplishment, another side mourned the death of famous actress Shelly Duval whose name was a popular audio on the app as a trend to show off outfits.
August 2024: During the Olympics, TikTok focused heavily on the breakdancing portion that accumulated a lot of attention because of Australian dancer, Raygun. Remaining on the topic of the Olympics, gymnast Simone Biles won her third gold medal in Paris.
September 2024: The trial was the talk across the world when it first came out, but in September, Sean “Diddy” Combs was finally arrested for the charges he was accused of.
October 2024: Unexpectedly, news outlets released the news about former boy band member Liam Payne’s death. Once again, people from young to old were struck with sadness after hearing the news, some even speculating that some foul play was involved. Basketball player Lebron James and his son Bronny became the first father-son duo to play on the same team. Lil Durk, a rapper loved by many, was arrested on federal charges as he was caught trying to flee the US.
November 2024: After much anticipation from fans, famous boxer Mike Tyson and Jake Paul finally fought which was streamed live on Netflix. Beyonce becomes the most nominated artist in Grammy history. After more than two decades, Gladiator II is finally released starring Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Paul Mescal. With nonstop promotion and buzz about the movie, Wicked is finally released a couple of days before Thanksgiving reaching 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $680.6 million in box office globally.
December 2024: After the 149th show, The Eras Tour is finally concluded in Canada. The 21-month-long concert was the highest grossing concert of all time at just over two billion dollars.
