Winter Hobbies

January 4, 2023

All cooped up in your room on a cold winter day, it’s only a matter of time until you get bored. Why face this problem when you can escape it? Distract yourself with the following 7 activities that will get you out of your slump.

  • Crochet

Crocheting can be confused with knitting, but it is definitely a better alternative. You can make all kinds of things from stuffed animals to coasters and gloves or scarves for this cold winter season. It’s not that hard to catch along and it’s a skill that recycles your time rather than wastes it.

  • Skiing

Skiing and snowboarding is a winter go-to. You can only do it this time of year, so get a move on! There are so many spots close by. Whether you’re a beginner or a hard core skater, there’s something for you.

  • Reading

Books don’t have to be boring. Pick up something that catches your eye or try something out of your comfort zone. Reading is not only great for passing your highschool english quiz but also great for passing time. It’s almost like a movie, just without the pictures and audio. On second thought, it’s not that similar, but at least it has the story part!

  • Watching movies

If reading doesn’t work out for you, you can stick to regular movies. You can never go wrong with a feel good movie or a feel-not-good documentary. It’s a great way to pass time and maybe even learn something new.

  • Language-learning

Speaking of learning something new, language-learning is a great way to learn something that isn’t boring. It will even benefit you with traveling or making new friends. When you take that gap year in Europe, knowing languages like Spanish or German will be really helpful!

  • Experimenting in the kitchen

Just because you are a horrible cook or baker doesn’t mean that you wont make something good eventually. It’s super fun and you can reap what you sow almost immediately. It’s a win-win; something to cross off your list and something to fill your stomach.

  • Workouts

Exercise is only fun when you’re not forced to do it, so why not do it now? It’s a great way to stay in shape and make you feel good about yourself. There are so many different home workouts, you’re bound to find one you don’t hate.
