Take This Class: Art

Most people have found themselves wishing they could go back to middle or elementary school when we had breaks for recess and snack time. Unfortunately, high school does not offer those classes. If only there was some type of loophole we could use, a class that breaks up a mundane school day but also gives you credits. . . Wait, there is a loophole! It’s called an art class, and here’s why you should add any level of art to your schedule next year.

No matter your skill or motivation level, art is always a great way to take a breather after a rigorous academic class. Each art classroom is a free space where you can de-stress, talk to your friends, and let your mind run wild. There are many different mediums available (like watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastels, conte pencils, graphite, and more!), so you’ll never be stuck because of supplies or limitations. In the lower levels of art, you will be given a prompt, and from there you can think of an idea that makes you excited to put brush to canvas. Once you move on to the higher levels, it will be completely up to you – if you can dream it, you can do it! Our two art teachers, Mrs. Gingerelli and Mrs. Olivo, are willing to work with you to help you bring your ideas to life, and they’re open to everything. If you need a bit more structure, they are always full of ideas and prompts you can use. 

Whether or not you plan to seriously pursue art, the art program has a place for you. Art can be a way to take another AP class, or a way to have fun and de-stress in between classes. There are different levels to choose from depending on if you took art in middle school, and curated paths will take you through the classes so you can continue to build on your skills. Even if you have no idea what you’re doing, trust the process. After a year or two, you’ll have enough knowledge to create whatever you want! There is seriously no way to go wrong in art class, as long as you’re having fun with it.

Who wouldn’t want to break up their day with a great art class? There is a way to give yourself a breather after a long series of classes, and it’s staring you right in the face! Take art!
