Staying in Touch in the Age of Social Distancing

Stay home!

Although this may be a tempting time to hangout with your friends in person, it is crucial that people keep their distance from others. You do not have to physically see your friends in person to enjoy their company- it’s 2020. So here are some ways that anyone can get in contact with their friends over this period of social distancing!

  1. Videocall: This might be the most popular way that people spend time with their friends without seeing them in person. Facetime, Skype, and Google Hangout are all popular apps that are simple to use.
  2. Text messaging: Another simple way to communicate with your friends without putting yourself and others at risk.
  3. Phone call: This is a classic way to talk to your friends- simply and easily.
  4. Direct/Instant messaging: Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and almost every popular social media app has instant messaging features. Take advantage of this easy way to reach out to those who you won’t see in person.
  5. Send a letter: This is a great opportunity to write your friends a nice letter and send it in the mail. It’s not often that people receive handwritten letters anymore in the mail. It would be a wonderful surprise that could brighten someone’s day at home. (Just make sure you wash your hands first!)
  6. Email: This is a great way to keep in touch with teachers/those who you do not communicate with through social media or through the phone. A big downside to remote learning is that you don’t get to converse with your teachers the same way that you would in class. Reach out to your teachers and keep up with them like you would on a ‘regular’ school day.

Why go out of the way to leave the house when you have so many easy options to enjoy time with your friends? If you’re lucky enough to be able to stay home, take advantage of that. Be safe, conscious, and considerate of others.
