Met Gala Fashion Reviews

Met+Gala+Fashion+Reviews

The 2019 Met Gala was a highly anticipated event for this year. Many A-List celebrities dressed their best and walked the carpet to represent the theme of the year, “Camp: Notes On Fashion”. Some celebrities made their outfits unique while still staying within their comfort zone, and others stepped way out of the box and took the theme in a different direction. No matter how famous the designer, some celebrities really nailed the theme while others kind of missed the mark. We are here to give you all the rundown of the fashion statements of the night and let you know our take on each persons “camp” attire.

Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell – Lady Gaga showed off four looks on the carpet at the Met Gala. This look was her last and in our opinion, definitely not the best. The outfit, however, does fit the theme of the night which was “camp”. It is unique and definitely shows a lot of skin, We rate it a 6 out of 10. Her outfit is bold and definitely fits the theme of “camp”.

Kendall Jenner in Versace – Kendall Jenner came out making a bold statement with her bright orange dress. This is a great color for her skin tone and overall a great take on the theme of the night. The feathers on her dress are a very fun touch that kind of reflects a flame. You may say that her outfit was on fire! We rate this a 9 out of 10 because the dress fits the theme and it also fits her young and trendy style.

Kylie Jenner in Versace – Kylie pulled up to the event wearing a dazzling purple gown. The color was a vibrant look and fit her body like a glove. She had really fun and fluffy sleeves that allowed for extra drama. Another fantastic touch was her purple hair to complete the outfit. She went all out and killed the theme. We rate her a 7 because she looks great but she does not top her sister, Kendall.

Cardi B in Thom Browne – Cardi B was definitely one of the artists who took the theme and ran with it. Cardi wore a long, fitted, red dress with a long trail that definitely made her stand out among the crowd. Her dress is certainly one of the most bold looks of the night, it does not stand with many other outfits. While her dress shows off her hourglass figure, the trail is excessively long and it has a carpet look. Her chest and head piece, however, were sparkling and were definitely the highlights of her dress. We rate this a 4.5 out of 10 because while it was unique, it was not the most appealing dress of the night.

Lupita Nyong’o in Atelier Versace and Bvlgari jewelry – Lupita arrived to the event wearing probably one of the boldest looks of the night. She showed up in a long, pink, pencil skirt and a big rainbow top. Her hair was gelled up and she had combs sticking out of it. Her choice of fashion was a fun take on the theme and definitely a unique look. Her outfit was an acquired taste but for anybody interested in color and fun, her outfit takes the cake. We rate her a 5 because she nailed the theme but her look isn’t the most appealing of the gala.

Zendaya in Tommy Hilfiger – Zendaya stole the show at the 2019 Met Gala by wearing an extravagant, Cinderella inspired, gown by Tommy Hilfiger. She strutted down the carpet as her dress transformed from a loomy grey to a magnificent shade of blue, mimicking the famous Cinderella gown. Zendaya took the theme and twisted it to create her own Disney Princess Fairytale. She even took it a step further by recreating a classic scene in the Disney Cinderella movie. When going up the stairs to the Met, Zendaya left her “glass slipper” as she climbed the steps. We rate her gown a 10 out of 10 because her outfit was on point for the theme and it was absolutely stunning.

Harry Styles in Gucci – Harry wore a youthful jumpsuit that showed off his feminine side. Harry has been known to make bold fashion statements that most men would never do. He is always playing around with gender neutral clothing and tends to mix women and men’s fashion. This jumpsuit is a great representation of his style. He is never afraid of taking risks and constantly proves that you can be masculine and feminine at the same time. We rate his outfit a 10 out of 10 because he nailed the theme and stayed true to himself and his style at the same time.

James Charles in Alexander Wang – James Charles is not the person you would think would be invited to the Met Gala, but he was invited by YouTube and was dressed by Alexander Wang. He wore a chain crop top with loose, black pants, high heel boots and an Alexander Wang belt. While this outfit is, as Charles would say, “funky and fresh”, it was definitely not the best on the carpet that night. His choice of the chain top and baggy pants was not the boldest idea and has been done in the past. However, his makeup was on point and his hair looked great. Overall, the only plus side to his look for that night was his makeup which is always looking good. We rate his look a 3 out of 10 because he was not bold enough and did not fit the criteria for the theme.

We only chose a few people to write an extensive review on but there were many other celebrities who showed up in stunning looks. Honorable mention goes to Hailey Bieber for her simple but stylish dress by Alexander Wang topped with a cute ponytail tied by a scrunchie. In our opinion the worst dressed on our list was Cardi B. Her long gown was a wild choice but we feel she kind of missed the mark on being stylish and “camp”. Best dressed goes to Harry Styles because he stayed true to his consistent style but still managed to dress for the theme. The Met Gala will continue to be one of the most bold nights for fashion and celebrities will continue to go the extra mile for there looks.
