Are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat? We are talking about Queen today…don’t stop us now! The movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” paid homage to the iconic band known as Queen.  For those of you not in touch with your inner rock and roll, the band featured the legendary lead singer Freddie Mercury, Brian May on lead guitar, Roger Taylor on drums, and John Deacon on bass guitar.  The movie follows the story of the group that began with small gigs in local night clubs, to how they transformed into rock and roll legends.

Bohemian Rhapsody hit the theaters on November 2, 2018. If you were not able to catch it in theaters then today is your lucky day because we are here to break it down for you!  The movie starts off with the main character, and lead singer of the band, Farrokh Bulsara, later changing his name to Freddie Mercury, for both style and clarity. His Pakistani heritage affected the way he was raised and how other perceive him. His parents were very strict and not completely supportive of the lifestyle he chose for himself. One night, while going to see a local band that he liked, he met two members of the band after their partner dropped out. Freddie offered up his talented voice and took the two guys by storm, and after this, the new band was in and the old band was out.  At Freddie’s first show he was bursting with confidence and blew the audience away while meeting his first love, Mary. They instantly clicked and as Freddie’s band grew more popular Mary stuck by his side. Eventually their love fizzled out when Freddie realizes that he is gay. While shocking, this was not a complete surprise considering the fact that he was known for dressing in women’s clothing, and he had very feminine tendencies. Mary and Freddie always remained friends and learned to fall in love with other people. As for the band, Queen was becoming one of the most popular bands, going on world tours, and becoming more and more famous all around the globe.  The band faced hate, but learned to ignore it. Eventually Freddie felt that his talent could give him solo career, so he decided to leave.However, he was not as successful as he imagined it to be and started to regret leaving. He was also diagnosed with AIDS at a time when there was not much known about the disease so Freddie did not know how long he had. He decided to do the only thing that felt true to himself: working his way back into the band. Together, they play his final show in front of billions of people at Live Aid. After the show,Freddie dies of pneumonia through complications from AIDS but his legacy lives on.

The glam-rock band out of London, England began in 1970 and released one of its most popular songs, Bohemian Rhapsody, in 1975. While the band was at its peak in the mid 1970’s to the mid 1980’s, their tracks are making a major comeback in modern music. Occasionally, you will find Bohemian Rhapsody being covered at concerts all over the world. Famous bands such as 5 Seconds Of Summer, Panic! At The Disco, and Metallica covered songs by the iconic rock band. Also, the popular television show, Glee, covered many songs by the group such as Somebody to Love, Fat Bottomed Girls, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, and We Will Rock You. Queen’s music has left a lasting impression on young people, years after Freddie’s death and the breakup of the band. Their lyrics and musical techniques are still used by artists today and will be used by artists yet to come. Queen left a lasting legacy on music lovers everywhere and will continue to be remembered by anyone with a passion for rock and roll music.

So if Queen was not a band on your playlist to listen to we hope, after reading what we have to say about the band, that you will give their music a chance. Many see “Queen”  and don’t give them a listen because Queen’s music is “old”. What many people do not know is that many of Queen’s songs inspired popular tracks you listen to today. “Goodbye, everybody, we’ve got to go, gotta leave you all behind and” see you at the movies!
