Scary Games You Might Not Have Played

Hello ghouls and goblins, today we will be discussing some scary games to play on All Hallows Eve in no particular order or ranking. So without further ado:

First on the list we have Outlast, a first-person survival horror game from 2013, revolving around an insane asylum where tons of crazy (and definitely illegal) experiments are being conducted. But someone just blew the whistle and you are an investigative journalist are there to investigate. Outlast is full of good scares, crazy adversaries, and plenty of wet the bed, nightmare inducing, holy *&%$ he’s right behind you moments.

Second we head into the darkness of space with Alien Isolation, Released in 2014 Alien Isolation expects you to run and hide from the greatest predator in space (no not that one) the Xenomorph. Set on the Sevastopol Station, there is only one Alien on board and yet most of the crew is dead except for a few androids and you. You die instantly if the Xenomorph catches up to you so you have to be resourceful and quick on your toes to even have a hope of surviving. But this is a thinking, learning Alien, which reacts to your diversions, eventually shrugging them off and ignoring them. Alien: Isolation is definitely something worth the time of any horror enthusiast.

Next on the list we have a gem from the twisted mind of Harlan Ellison

I Have No Mouth and I must Scream: Hate. Let me tell you how much I’ve come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of printed circuits in wafer thin layers that fill my complex. If the word ‘hate’ was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant. For you. Hate. Hate. This is the opening lines to the game voiced by Harlan Ellison as AM the Skynet before Skynet. The game was released in the 80s and is a point and click adventure game but it is very disturbing. The story takes place after WWIII and you play as the 5 humans left on Earth in the bowels of AM in the center of the Earth where he has been torturing them for 109 years. Each human is put through their own simulation where their own flaws and backstories are exposed. This game is frankly very grotesque and disturbing, hence why it is on this list. It also is based off of a book of the same name.

Last on the list is Call of Cthulhu a survival horror game where you are trying to investigate a mysterious island with dark secrets. Based off of the works of H.P Lovecraft, this horror RPG also takes inspiration from the tabletop game of the same name. It technically isn’t out yet at time of writing but it will be on the 30th the day before Halloween (really missed an opportunity but i’m not in marketing) and looks fantastically horrific.

Have a happy Halloween everyone and remember to sleep with the lights on.
